Motivating Mom of the Month-December 2024: Maria Smith-Rea

"Maria is an incredibly dedicated client and mother who brings her all to every session, never missing a beat. Over the past year, she has truly embraced parenting with grace and determination, balancing her new role beautifully while continuing to prioritize her health and well-being. It’s such a pleasure having her and her sidekick hubby at our weekend classes." -Shannon Slayer, Fit4Mom Franchise Owner

Who are the members of your family and where are you originally from?

Myself, my husband, Patrick, our daughter, Holly (2), our dog, Chai and cat, Cascade. My husband and I are originally from central PA (near Altoona).

When was your first Fit4Mom class and what do you remember about it?

I went to the Kingstowne Library for a preview class and was hooked! Shannon had us huffing and puffing all while entertaining our kids! It was great!

Where can we find you? What is your Fit4Mom routine these days?

I’m virtual most days! I do my best to make the 5:30 classes but Saturdays are our favorite to go to as a family!

What is your current job? Or what did you do before staying at home (if you don’t currently work outside the home)?

I’m a Customer Success Manager for a national tutoring company. I work from home. Previous to this position, I was a kindergarten teacher at FCPS.

What are 3 of your favorite things?

Coffee dates, a good Spotify playlist and a cozy sweater!

You are given 4 hours of FREE babysitting. What would you do?

A date in Old Town roaming the streets and getting yummy food and drinks!

What has being a mom taught you?

There are so many different ways to teach the same thing. Coming with experience of being an early educator, I had ideas of what I would do and being Holly’s mom continues to teach me there are more ways.

What is your funniest or most embarrassing mommy moment so far?

At Christmas Eve Mass, Holly was very excited to see her cousin and kept shouting her name. Her cousin eventually was on the altar acting as Mary and Holly was thrilled. The whole church knew her cousin’s name by the end of the mass.

Any words of wisdom for other moms?

Be open to others and allow yourself to be a listening space. You never know what you’ll learn from others coming from different perspectives
