Motivating Mom of the Month-July 2023: Rachael Mead

"Rachel is always a pleasure to have in class. She comes with a big smile on and totally kicks butt even while pregnant with her second baby. Thank you for always bringing your kindness and motivation to our workouts. You are awesome!!" -Jamie, Fit4Mom Instructor

"Rachael is an incredible mom! She has such a calming, sweet and easy going personality. She attends several classes a week with her daughter, Claire and works hard! She’s a strong mama and has been exercising throughout her pregnancy with baby #2. Amazing job, Rachael!!" -Alicia, Fit4Mom Instructor

Who are the members of your family and where are you originally from?

My family includes: myself, my husband, my 3 year old daughter, a soon-to-be newborn due the first week of August, and two cats. I am originally from Baltimore, Maryland.

When was your first Fit4Mom class and what do you remember about it?

My first class was the annual Mother’s Day event in 2022. It was raining the entire time but everyone made the most of the event by using the pavilions at the park. I remember how friendly and welcoming all the moms were, especially those moms who were part of the Fit4Mom team. It felt like a community I wanted to be a part of, so I joined after that! At the Mother’s Day event I did not actually participate in the class because it was a little too large and overwhelming for my daughter as a first class. The first class I actually participated in was an S360 and there were only a handful of moms at this class. My daughter loved it and still talks about this first class even now.

Where can we find you? What is your Fit4Mom routine these days?

I enjoy attending stroller barre on Tuesdays, stroller strides on Thursdays, and S360 on Sundays. And we almost always enjoy going to the special holiday and event classes.

What is your current job? Or what did you do before staying at home (if you don’t currently work outside the home)?

I am a veterinarian and right now I have a dream job as a part-time urgent care doctor for cats.

What are 3 of your favorite things?

Breakfast, and more specifically my morning cup of coffee or tea.

Going for walks or exercise class.

And being a mom is number one- my daughter’s sense of wonder and pure happiness can’t be beat.

You are given 4 hours of FREE babysitting. What would you do?

I think, like most moms, the first thought was getting done some of the things on the never ending to-do list. But what I would really like is a date with my husband- a meal and a movie would be wonderful!

What has being a mom taught you?

Oh so many things! And I’m still learning every single day. One of the biggest things is letting go of messes. Toddlers can be messy and messes can be cleaned. I try to embrace the mess as my daughter explores life. Make-up (aka face paint at this age!) can be wiped off, pom poms can be swept up, and the mess of preparing food together can be easily cleaned. Being a mom has taught me to try to enjoy and be present in even the smallest moments of our day.

What is your funniest or most embarrassing mommy moment so far?

One day, after playing at the park, my daughter wanted to “drive” the car. So for about 15 minutes I let her in the driver’s seat and she pressed all the buttons, moved all the levers, and honked the horn. We played music the entire time and had a lot of fun! We were parked with the car on but the engine was off the entire time. Unbeknownst to me, this fun drained the car battery and the engine wouldn’t start when we were ready to leave! I had to call a family member to come give us a jump in order to get home.

Any words of wisdom for other moms?

The dishes can wait!

What is your favorite thing about FIT4MOM? What would you tell someone thinking about joining?

I love the community! Getting to know the other moms is great. And not feeling alone in this wild ride of motherhood - knowing I’m not the only one with these thoughts, feelings, and experiences!

The work-outs are satisfying and I love having my toddler with me for them. She enjoys seeing the other moms and kids, and she is learning so much from us prioritizing self-care. She loves doing some of the moves herself after class!

Anyone thinking of joining should absolutely do it!
