Motivating Mom of the Month-June 2023: Kyle Kellner

"Kyle is a BLAST to have in class. She constantly brings humor to class. She makes time for her self-care, even if the day starts out rocky and she needs to arrive to class fashionably late with an iced coffee. She's a fantastic part of our village!" -Kara, Fit4Mom Instructor

Who are the members of your family and where are you originally from?

My family consists of myself, my husband, my two daughters, a dog, and there is one little boy on the way due in December. I'm originally from Massachusetts and my husband primarily grew up in Wisconsin. We met in New York state while I was in grad school.

When was your first Fit4Mom class and what do you remember about it?

I joined Fit4Mom in 2020 after Covid started and classes were virtual. I remember being welcomed with open arms and really loved finding such an amazing community during a time when I felt really distant from other people. I remember the classes initially being really challenging 6 months postpartum with my first daughter but loved how I felt stronger and stronger with each week that passed.

Where can we find you? What is your Fit4Mom routine these days?

I live in Woodbridge and attend classes closest to my house at Potomac Mills and Laurel Hills. It has been so great to make a community of mom friends so close to where we live. I really cherish the connections I have made in my Fit4Mom journey.

What is your current job? Or what did you do before staying at home (if you don’t currently work outside the home)?

I am currently a stay at home mom - before that I was a Clinical Mental Health Counselor. After stepping away from work, I started a side hustle reselling items I find at thrift stores or yard sales for profit online. I have really enjoyed being able to make some extra money on the side while having an extremely flexible schedule.

What are 3 of your favorite things?

My kids, iced coffee, and going on vacation

You are given 4 hours of FREE babysitting. What would you do?

I have to admit that I have never hired a babysitter yet (that feels bananas). But if I got 4 free hours of babysitting I would either go out with my husband for a really nice dinner or go out kayaking somewhere scenic.

What has being a mom taught you?

It has taught me that there is really no love more special than the love between a mom and her babies. It has taught me to trust my gut and follow my instincts. It has taught me not to sweat the small stuff if I can. And it has taught me the importance of asking for help when needed.

What is your funniest or most embarrassing mommy moment so far?

I think my funniest moment as a mom was getting to the airport with a 6 month old for a 12 hour flight only to realize the diaper bag wasn't packed well and we only had two diapers for our whole trip (airports don't sell diapers). But then we realized I told my husband to go to the wrong airport to begin with so we sped all the way from Reagan to Dulles and bought diapers at a CVS on the way. Thankfully we still made our flight! And thankfully we got the diapers because our daughter went through a million diapers that trip and had multiple blow outs. What a doozy!

Any words of wisdom for other moms?

Motherhood looks different for everyone. It can be a journey with moments of extreme joy and moments of extreme pain. Help is out there and there is hope for healing. I am very thankful for the help I received as a new mom from Postpartum Virginia and other groups in our area addressing various issues impacting moms at all stages. The moms in Fit4Mom are a wealth of knowledge and can also help direct you toward great resources.

What is your favorite thing about FIT4MOM? What would you tell someone thinking about joining?

I love both the great workouts and the wonderful community. The women I have met in Fit4Mom have been great teachers, motivators, friends, and extended family. Classes are fun, energizing, and centering. It has been great to also bring my kiddos and see them develop a love for exercise over time. If someone is thinking of joining I would highly suggest trying a free class to see if this is a space they feel is right for them - nothing to lose and a lot to potentially gain from joining.
