Motivating Mom of the Month-November 2022: Ilana Cumbey

"Ilana is so inspiring in her drive to take care of herself and be an example for her family. I love her passion for Fit4Mom and you can find her at all the classes, Body Boost, Stroller Strides and S360 smiling and chatting with all the moms. I’m so glad you were walking past our event at Burke Lake Park and took the leap right there and joined our village!!" -Alicia, Fit4Mom Instructor

"Ilana is SO FUN to have in class. I love her attitude, she encourages all the moms and makes class what it should truly be about! She's such a great addition to our village." -Kara, Fit4Mom Instructor

Who are the members of your family and where are you originally from?

Greg, my husband of almost 13 years, 4 year old daughter Lucy, 15 month old Logan, and our puppy Daisy, a Portuguese water dog. I also have 2 step-daughters, Allie 21 and Jordan 29, and 3 grandkids!

I was born in Elkins Park, PA and moved to South Jersey when I was 7. Which is where I lived throughout high school. I moved to VA for college at GMU in 1996.

When was your first Fit4Mom class and what do you remember about it?

July 2022. I was at Burke Lake Park to take a walk with Logan. Laura was setting up in the parking lot and asked if I was there for fit4mom. She was in a different location than normal, because playgroup had a tow truck coming for playgroup. I decided to participate in class that day, and joined right after that.

Where can we find you? What is your Fit4Mom routine these days?

Tuesday with Shannon in Lorton for body boost. Sometimes on Wednesday and Sunday at Laurel Hill for S360. Thursday with Logan at Burke Lake Park with Laura for stroller strides and playgroup. I also Participated in body well Sept & Oct with Alicia as my coach. I loved the program and am doing the November and December sessions also.

What is your current job? Or what did you do before staying at home (if you don’t currently work outside the home)?

Full-time mama! I stopped working at Kearney & Company (where I had been for 16 years) when I had Lucy. With that said, I’m ready for my next adventure. Trying now to figure out what that’s going to be.

What are 3 of your favorite things?

Any beach, being on my boat, and the Washington Capitals.

You are given 4 hours of FREE babysitting. What would you do?

Go play poker at MGM!

What has being a mom taught you?

How special a bond is between mama and child; one that I had never before experienced. Still, when I look at Lucy and Logan, I sometimes have to pinch myself- I made them… they are all mine.

What is your funniest or most embarrassing mommy moment so far?

The first one that comes to mind is forgetting the diaper bag for Lucy’s 1st pediatrician appointment. We had to call Allie and ask her to bring it to us at the office. Serious mom fail.

Any words of wisdom for other moms?

Do more of what makes YOU happy!

What is your favorite thing about FIT4MOM? What would you tell someone thinking about joining?

Meeting other mamas that I would not normally have an opportunity to cross paths with, and finding out how much we have in common and the need for this type of support in our daily lives.

Do it! Join. It’s so much more than the workout.
